We know unpaid caregivers play a critical role in end-of-life experiences for those family and friends for whom they provide care. But while the focus of hospice and palliative care, by necessity, is on the patient, too often the needs of caregivers go unrecognized. For them, hospice caregiving often presents a complexity of emotions, demanding physical obligations, and expanded responsibilities and commitments. This Webinar will introduce data on caregiving as a framework for the experiences and emotions of unpaid caregivers participating in hospice care for their loved one and offer a glimpse into one caregiver’s journey through the hospice paradigm.
Objectives At the completion of this program, participants will be able to:
• Identify regulations framing unpaid caregivers in hospice and palliative care services in the U.S.
• Discuss statistics about the impact of caregiving on the caregiver’s health and well-being
• Describe the experiences and needs of unpaid caregivers in the hospice setting
