The bereavement experience of those surviving a death due to opioid overdose includes a number of unique and significant aspects; learning about them will help hospice bereavement professionals learn how to best educate, support and provide services to them. In addition to expected aspects of grief, this group of grievers has often had a long history of experience with drug treatment programs, law enforcement and the legal system. Many have “walked on eggshells” and lived with anxiety and fear for a long time.
